Emerging slowly from the ashes of the seminal underground collective Mustard Mash (disbanded in April 2004) Speed Hearse released their first material in late 2007 - the epic "For All Your Inventions...".
Based around the enigmatic, sometimes abstract torch songs of Simon Foster with production and arrangements from Real Dolls' Dave Thacker, it garnered instant acclaim both from the Manchester music community from which it emerged, and nationally from radio stations such as BBC 6 music.
The more intimate Dark Room EP followed in 2008, after which Simon Foster embarked on a solo tour of Australia and Europe. Foster returned in 2009, and Speed Hearse began work on new material. Over a week in 2009, they recorded a collection of covers to be released as "Shades", interpretations of songs by Fugazi, Animal Collective and Gene Clark among others.
An EP of new material and a tour will follow in 2010/2011.
