The Real Dolls came together after a series of jams and loose collaborations between established Manchester musicians. Founding member Rod Hotly is at the heart of the band's action, ably assisted by producer Real Dave, DJ Peter Parker (well known from his time in Fingathing), dancer Yoshi and a revolving list of collaborators, including Zoe McVeigh from (hooker), drummer Rick Wheedon and vocalist Veba (Grand Central, Groove Armada).
What began as an abstract preoccupation for its members, The Real Dolls took on an increasingly mainstream trajectory from the day they went on stage in day glo polo wear. Accidentally becoming part what later emerged as the UK New Rave scene, the Dolls changed up again, this time donning 70's NY gang colours - Rod Hotly's self styled "gang of love". An unbeatable and insane live show converted thousands to the cause, through early classics such as "Trophy", "My Bitch is Plastic" and "Cant Do Right".
In 2009, they signed to Switchflicker records (the Ting Tings, Magic Arm), and released a version of "Trophy" with blog favourite Afrikan Boy. After Radio 1 support and sets at major UK festivals V and T in the Park, they completed their self titled album in 2010.
The Real Dolls remix fellow Mancunian folk duo Butler Williams. It is available on the flip side of the 7" single.
